With what incredible force they pull me into that “happy far-off.” Of course happy! There was nothing to compare with, only with that barracks in which my early childhood passed. How was I to know that somewhere someone nearby lived better than we. And yet there were such people! Next to our plant house there were also “departmental,” as they were then called, houses of the Council of Ministers and the Central Committee of the Communist Party. With improved layout: dining room, bedroom, children’s room… And I knew only “my kitchen, which only at night turned into my personal room.”

Of course I was a “night owl,” that is I fell asleep late, which greatly strained my parents. In my kitchen there was a door, and then from the kitchen immediately there was a 17 sq. m room, where for “some reasons unknown to me” the parents could not fall asleep, because I could allow myself, at the most unsuitable moment for them, to walk past them to the toilet! Now I understand that the parents had no personal life at all because of me, a stupid teenager!

The little sister also added pepper already to “my personal life.” I explain: she could run around the yard all day and not ask for food, and before sleep she would start yelling “MAMA, give me soup!” (the pot of soup would not fit in the refrigerator and they took it out onto the balcony for the night). So Mama would go onto the balcony, bring the pot of soup into my kitchen, heat it on the gas stove, and then feed “our offspring”! At that moment I thought I would burst with anger! I told Mama everything I could tell! I said that you, parents, don’t know how to bring her up, don’t do in time what is needed, allow “this little monkey” to sit on your necks with her legs hanging. To which Mama patiently answered: “if a child wants to eat, he must be fed!”

…. there will be a continuation!… but tomorrow..
