The moment of entering into marriage had to be waited for a month and a half, until mid-September. Then I thought, and if there is no “approval” from the municipal officials for our entering into marriage, then what? The visa was given for half a year… August had already arrived.

The school year began for Vanya’s daughters. They went by bus to their schools in different towns. (I give a note for those who have never been in Norway: in the morning and in the daytime school bus runs are well organised, but if for some reason a schoolchild “is late” for the bus, then one has to “think” how to get home or stay overnight with friends).

The elder daughter had no such problems. She almost always came home on time, according to the bus timetable, but with the younger, who was 15 years old….. she would call papa and report where she was only when she needed to be picked up and brought by car. Her whereabouts after school were within a radius of 30–50 km. And, naturally, we would go for her at any time of day or night and in any weather.

Ivan always suggested going together, and I did not refuse; I even liked it: you sit in the little car, look out the window, study new places and the beauties of Norway.

At the end of August I started going to Norwegian language courses again, got acquainted with the group, and every day was filled with something new and interesting and completely “distinct” from that past life of mine in the city of Kyiv.

To be continued….
