The little dog, literally before the eyes of the whole crowd of onlookers, began to grow sharply, turning into a strong unmanageable dog, which, breaking off the lead, began to run and jump around the crowd. And the owner, not standing such a shock, fainted! The crowd began to shout: “A doctor, a doctor! We need to call an ambulance!” (Everyone had already forgotten about Vova, and Vova himself had already shrunk to such a size that he could fit in the sleeve of his jacket!)

Luckily at that time Doctor Nebolit had finished seeing patients and had gone out for a walk in the fresh air. Seeing the lady lying in a faint and a strange dog running around her, he asked “What happened?” And suddenly he sees the dog run up to the “lying jacket” and start shaking it with its teeth. “The jacket squeaked,” and the doctor immediately understood that Vova had to be saved. By this time the lady had come to on her own and kept repeating one and the same thing: “The Red pill, the Red pill.”

The doctor took the unfortunate child in his arms and with a quick step headed for the nearest pharmacy. Precisely to that pharmacy where in the morning Vova had bought these pills! The pharmacist was in shock from what she saw and quickly began to explain to the doctor that she had issued a green pill for rejuvenating Vova’s grandfather by 10 years. And since Vova himself was 9 years old! You can imagine what the result might have been if this process were not urgently stopped.

Vova could no longer eat on his own. The pharmacist had to dissolve the red pill in warm water, pour the solution into a baby bottle with a teat and start feeding the exhausted child. Vova quickly recovered, and by the time the militia arrived he was already able to give his home address. While the militia drove him home, Vova had time to think, and he swore to himself never, never in his life to be lazy!

P.S. I ask readers’ forgiveness for my free abbreviated retelling of the wonderful children’s book titled “The Green Pill,” author Sofya Leonidovna Prokofieva. I only found it today and read it on the site modernlib.net. This book is a masterpiece! Read it to children and enjoy!
