In part 3 I already wrote about the road signs that were in my test. The name of this group of signs is FARESKILT (danger signs). I make a literal translation, so that it is easier to remember in Norwegian. Try to pay attention to them where you live and move about.
The next group of signs is VIKEPLIKT- og forkjørsskilt. Vike — to yield, plikt — duty, forkjør — main, priority on the road, skilt — sign.
Sign STOP 204. A red hexagon. In the Russian rules it is very clearly designated: Passage without stopping is forbidden. Stanse helt før kjøring inn på kryssende veg — a complete stop before driving out onto a crossing, a railway crossing onto a road in both directions, etc. The sign may be with a stop line (stopplinje) and without a stop line. If there is none, then så nær den kryssende veg som mulig (as close as possible to the intersection). So if you are driving with a course instructor, don’t be shy about asking him, when you approach the STOP sign, whether you have stopped in the right place. It turns out like this: you approach the intersection, and in front of you there are several cars. And when your turn comes to the stop line, and if there is none, then it turns out “closer to the sign and to the intersection” and… we stop.
An example of a question in the test: Du kommer kjørende sakte mot et kryss hvor du får dette skiltet STOP. Hva er korrekt? Answer: “jeg må stanse helt opp selv om det ikke er annen trafikk på den kryssende veien.”
And now — attention! A very important sign 210 Forkjørskryss (in the Russian rules it is called Intersection with a minor road). Skiltet varsler om farlig vegkryss hvor kjørende fra sideveg eller kryssende veg er pålagt vikeplikt med skilt 202. “Vikeplikt” eller 204 “Stop.” It turns out in practice, if you are on the main road (forkjørsvei), then having seen this sign 210, be attentive, because from the side road (sideveg) a car may come out. This car must see its signs on the road — sign 202 Vikeplikt and sign 204 STOP.
There are also in this group two signs that are poorly absorbed by beginners. These are 212 vikeplikt overfor møtende kjørende and 214 Møtende kjørende har vikeplikt. I will not analyse them in detail, but will explain how I understand them if I am driving: “If the Red arrow on the sign is ‘on your side,’ then you stop and yield and place the car as close as possible to the verge, because signs 212 and 214 are set up on a narrow road (smal veg).” I give an example of an answer in the test for sign 212 “veien er smal og du må vike (yield) for motgående kjøretøy.” And for sign 214 — “veien er smal og motgående trafikk har vikeplikt.”
