Sudermühlen This photo was taken at a suburban hotel in Germany in the place Süderühlen. It was very cosy there, and on the way back from Spain we stopped there too.

Happy New Year! It is I again, with thoughts of last summer. I will not weary readers with an artistic description of European sights. The thing is, I am a homebody, not a traveller and still less a tourist. But on trips my behaviour is always — exemplary. (as they once graded our behaviour in Soviet school) I try not to bother my Norwegian husband in any way when he is at the wheel and when he is not at the wheel either.

Since we set out such a long distance for the first time in the Tesla, our main task was not to miss the so-called Supercharge electric charging points, which are now studded on the map all over Western Europe. And that, of course, is good. In practice it turned out like this: on the road one had to keep an eye on the computer screen, how many km the “battery” showed, and most of all not to miss a charge.

We could not book a hotel in advance. In the second half of the day, while at a Supercharge, we looked for the nearest lodging. The ideal lodging is a roadside hotel, but at the height of summer everything was taken. We had to look at suburban hotels.

Yes, and another thing. Our trip was planned for Spain; there was an invitation from my Norwegian husband’s brother. The brother has had a cottage there for about 11 years, and we received the invitation for the first time and of course decided not to refuse.

So, about Germany. I imagined that we would cross Germany at fantastic cosmic speed in our Tesla swallow! …. Aha, Little Red Riding Hood was dreaming (that is how I sometimes secretly call myself 😻). For two days we drove through Germany, and for two days almost the whole of the main road was under repair and construction work.

One night we spent at a suburban hotel. We liked it. Good conditions, I swam my fill in the pool, excellent service. Then we stopped in Baden-Baden. That is how it turned out; I never thought I would go there, to the famous European spa. We stayed in the centre of town at the Radisson hotel. What I understood for myself, and now I confess. I feel psychological tension from hotel comfort. And the more of that comfort and all sorts of extra frills, the worse for me. I understood that if I went there for a rest, a maximum of one week would be enough for me.

Baden Baden Baden Baden And this is Baden-Baden.
