«LIVE MORE WONDERFULLY — YOU WILL BECOME FAMOUS FASTER» part 2

«The aunt is no fool!»

Yeees! That sounded so in our way, in Soviet-style, in a comment from one of my «nieces» ….

So then, however hard it was for me with two teenagers in their house, I always remembered that I am after all an «aunt» from Kiev and that they did not come to me, but I to THEM, and with a prospect! The aunt had to rebuild herself.

I seemed even experienced, even had pedagogical seniority, but when I moved in I understood that they were unlikely to go into contact with me. They were «on their own wave» and went on living as they had before my appearance. The elder, Kristina, was already studying at gymnasium, spoke English not badly. Her room was on the first floor with an exit into the living room.

Here I must make a small clarification about the personal space of each person living in the house. Each personal room abroad is officially customarily called a bedroom. Bedrooms, as a rule, are not heated. And if it is very cold, they switch on electric heaters. But in the living room there was a floor with electric heating, and it turned out that when it was cold, the girls settled in the living room at the coffee table, wrapped in blankets, settled on the corner sofa, each with her computer, and so as not to be bored they also switched on the television at the same time.

Often friends, girlfriends, came to the elder, sat late and stayed overnight. In Kristina’s room a mattress always lay on the floor, and Norwegian youth are unpretentious and, if there was nothing to get home on, and weekend days were ahead, they could sleep on the mattress too. The younger girl’s room and our bedroom were on the second floor. There too was a small bathroom with a warm floor. The second floor was also not heated — only if they switched on the electric radiators.

I go into a detailed description of the use of electrical appliances because until recently electricity in Norway was cheap. Of course in Norway in houses there is also stove heating; they use firewood. They say that is advantageous, but I do not know. So then, these portable electric radiators none of the household tried to switch off when leaving the house. And in the house often a cat and a dog remained.

And I, the aunt from Kiev, arrived with my phobias (fears) about fires from electrical appliances left on. The house was wooden after all, and next to it a garage stood right up against it, also wooden. And the phobia appeared in me still from 2006, when I lived in Kiev. My neighbour, who lived a floor above, started a fire, after which we lived a week without electricity, fearing a short circuit in the wiring that ran along wet walls after putting out the fire.

I have already described how easily and quickly everyone went out of the house to go shopping in town or to friends. On one, two, three — and everyone is sitting in the car, except me. They invite me, of course, but I remember!!! «when leaving, check the electrical appliances!» and like a goat I ran through the whole house, switched everything off. And the television was always on; at first there were, I think, 200 programmes which they did not watch. Ivan traditionally in the evenings watched only Norwegian news.

This I am describing is the beginning of my marriage, 2011. If the readers are not too lazy to «walk through» my blog, starting to read …. better from the beginning of the writing, in 2018, then you will get still more impressions of me as «the aunt who is no fool». 😉

To be continued ….
